Dear Students, Faculty Members, and Staff,We are delighted to share with you all the outstanding results of our university's wrestling team in the South West Zonal Wrestling Championship 2023-24 held at Chandigarh University, Mohali (Punjab). Our team, led by Coach Inderjeet Sharma, put up an impressive performance, bagging a total of seven medals - two gold, one silver, and four bronze.
In the women's category, Pratibha Jangu won the gold medal in the 59 kg weight category and qualified for the All India Games. Khushi and Kimat also made us proud by winning the silver and bronze medals respectively in the 68 kg and 57 kg categories. Rasana Rana finished fourth in the 65 kg category.
The men's team also had an excellent run, with Mohit winning the gold medal in the 92 kg category, Sahil and Shalya bagging the bronze medals in the 72 kg and 63 kg categories respectively, and Sagar finishing third in the 130 kg category. Sudhir, Atish, Ankit, Harsh, Himanshu, and Manish also qualified for the All India Games in their respective weight categories.

1. Pratibha Jangu, a student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, made history by becoming the first woman wrestler from the university to win a gold medal in the 59 kg weight category. She defeated her opponent from Punjabi University, Patiala, in a thrilling match that saw her dominate from start to finish.

2. Mohit, another student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, won the gold medal in the 92 kg weight category. He defeated his opponent from Kurukshetra University, Haryana, in a closely contested match that went down to the wire.

3.Khushi, a third-year student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, won the silver medal in the 68 kg weight category. She lost a close match to her opponent from Panjab University, Chandigarh, but still managed to secure a podium finish.

4.Sahil, a second-year student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, won the bronze medal in the 72 kg weight category. He defeated his opponent from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, in a dominant display of strength and technique.

5.Sagar, a third-year student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, won the bronze medal in the 130 kg weight category. He defeated his opponent from GNDU, Amritsar, in a tough match that saw him come back from behind to win.

6.Kimat, a second-year student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, won the bronze medal in the 57 kg weight category. She defeated her opponent from Punjabi University, Patiala, in a closely contested match.

7.Shalya, a first-year student of Dr. K. N. Modi University, also won a bronze medal in the 63 kg weight category. She defeated her opponent from Punjabi University, Patiala, in a convincing manner.

Coach Inderjeet Sharma expressed his pride in the team's performance, saying, "We have been working hard for months, and it's great to see the efforts paying off. The team has shown tremendous potential, and I am confident that we will continue to do well in future competitions." The management of Dr. K. N. Modi University congratulated the team on their achievement and promised to provide all necessary support to help them reach greater heights. The tournament was held from November 28th to December 1st, 2023, and December 4th to 11th, 2023. The girls' events took place on December 4th and 5th, while the boys' free-style events were held on December 7th and 8th, and the Greco-Roman events were conducted on December 10th and 11th. The South West Zonal Wrestling Championship 2023-24 was a huge success, with teams from various universities across the region participating in the event. The championship was organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and was held at Chandigarh University, Mohali (Punjab). We are extremely proud of our wrestlers for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. Their achievements are a testament to the quality of sports education and training provided by our university.
